How Platelet-Rich Plasma Is Collected by Physicians?

At Orthopedic Associates, we provide Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy as a cutting-edge, non-surgical option that supports and enhances the body’s natural healing process. Blood consists mostly of plasma, which carries red and white blood cells along with platelets—key components responsible for blood clotting and tissue regeneration. PRP Therapy works by isolating and concentrating these platelets into a solution rich in growth factors, helping to speed up recovery and reduce inflammation.

To create PRP, a physician—typically an orthopedic specialist or physiatrist—first draws a small blood sample from the patient. This sample is then placed in a centrifuge, a machine that rapidly spins the blood to separate its various components. Through this process, the plasma becomes enriched with platelets and healing proteins. The resulting PRP is then carefully injected into the targeted area, activating the body’s natural healing response right where it’s needed most.

Benefits of PRP Therapy in Orthopedic Care

PRP Therapy provides a natural, effective approach to treating a range of orthopedic conditions by utilizing the body’s own healing abilities. When concentrated platelets are injected into areas of injury or degeneration, they help stimulate tissue repair, decrease inflammation, and speed up the recovery process. This therapy is especially helpful for those suffering from joint pain, muscle or tendon injuries, and osteoarthritis. Many patients report less pain, better mobility, and improved function—allowing them to return to everyday activities or sports with more comfort and confidence. By encouraging tissue regeneration and reducing inflammation, PRP Therapy offers a powerful, minimally invasive alternative to surgery for restoring strength and movement.

How PRP Therapy Is Used in Orthopedic Care

PRP Therapy is a versatile, regenerative treatment used to address a wide range of orthopedic conditions. It can be effective for chronic tendon issues, acute muscle and ligament injuries, and knee arthritis. PRP is also frequently used to support post-surgical recovery by accelerating tissue repair and shortening healing time. By injecting concentrated platelets directly into the affected area, PRP activates the body’s natural repair processes, making it a valuable, non-surgical option for patients looking to relieve pain and restore function.

At Orthopedic Associates, our physicians use PRP both as a standalone therapy and in combination with surgical procedures to enhance healing. When paired with surgery, PRP may be injected after the procedure or applied in a special form that can be stitched into damaged tissue to promote stronger, faster recovery.

It’s important to understand that PRP is not a universal solution. Factors such as injury location, whether the issue is acute or chronic, and the patient’s overall health all influence whether PRP is the best approach. While patient preferences are always respected, our experienced physicians use their clinical judgment to recommend the most effective, personalized treatment plan to ensure optimal outcomes.
